Coming Soon to Charleston: 10 New Restaurants & Local Spots to Watch in 2026–2027
Charleston's dining scene has always punched above its weight. But the next 12 to 18 months look like something different: a wave of genuinely interesting openings, from a Michelin-starred chef landing on Cannon Street to a waterfront oyster bar on Johns Island with boat slips for arriving guests. Here's what's coming, what we know, and what's still being confirmed.
Target windows below come from local reporting and business announcements. Restaurant timelines shift, so treat them as working targets rather than guarantees. We'll update this guide as details firm up.
In This Guide
Downtown & The Peninsula
The lower peninsula, where Alténo, Luma, Reenie's, and Britt's are all targeting fall and winter openings.
Alténo
89 Cannon Street — The Charlee Hotel
Michelin-starred chef Johnny Curiel is bringing his Denver-born Mexican dining concept to Charleston. Curiel earned his star at Altenó in Denver, where the kitchen focuses on refined regional Mexican cooking rather than the Tex-Mex shorthand most American diners expect. The Charleston location is set inside The Charlee on Cannon, a boutique hotel on the lower peninsula.
Luma
Columbus Street — Downtown Charleston
An all-day neighborhood café focused on specialty coffee, house-made baked goods, fresh bread, sandwiches, and brunch. The Columbus Street location puts it in the lower peninsula, close to the residential streets south of Broad.
Reenie's
Remount Road — North Charleston
Chef Mark Bolchoz, known for Cane Pazzo, is introducing an old-world tavern drawing on Irish pub traditions and Lowcountry hospitality. The Remount Road address puts it in a stretch of North Charleston that has seen steady neighborhood investment over the past several years.
Britt's Donut Shop
City Market — Downtown Charleston
The Carolina Beach institution, open since 1939, is one of the most recognizable names in North Carolina's coastal food culture. Britt's makes one thing: a handmade glazed doughnut, cooked to order in an open kitchen. A City Market location would bring that tradition to one of Charleston's busiest tourist corridors.
Mount Pleasant
Jimmy Rosso is bringing Brooklyn-style neighborhood pizza to Brickyard Plantation in Mount Pleasant.
Jimmy Rosso
Brickyard Plantation — Mount Pleasant
The team behind Miller's All Day — one of Charleston's most consistently praised all-day diners — is taking a different direction with Jimmy Rosso: Brooklyn-inspired neighborhood pizza at the entrance of Brickyard Plantation in Mount Pleasant. The concept is more casual than Miller's, built around a wood-fired or deck oven and the kind of pizza that travels well from a neighborhood spot. Miller's All Day has operated locations on the downtown peninsula and James Island; Jimmy Rosso would be the team's first dedicated pizza concept.
James Island
Char House Social is planned as a laid-back outdoor gathering spot on James Island, with live music and a Texas-style grill.
Char House Social
James Island
From the team behind The Harlow comes a laid-back Texas-style steakhouse with live music, whiskey, and outdoor gathering spaces. The Harlow has built a following for its relaxed, social approach to dining, and Char House Social looks to carry that energy into a format built around the grill. James Island's mix of local residents and visitors passing through to Folly Beach makes it a natural fit for a casual, destination-worthy spot.
West Ashley
Bay Street Biergarten, celebrating 13 years on East Bay Street in October 2026, is planning a second location in West Ashley.
Bay Street Biergarten — West Ashley
West Ashley
The downtown Bay Street Biergarten at 549 East Bay Street has been a fixture in the Wraggborough neighborhood for 13 years, known for its large communal tables, high ceilings, and German-influenced bar fare. The biergarten celebrated its 13th anniversary on October 24, 2026, with a free oyster roast and specials. The West Ashley location is planned as a second outpost with a large indoor bar, elevated seating, and a covered outdoor patio.
Park Circle & North Charleston
Off Track Ice Cream's scratch-made scoops are expanding from downtown to Park Circle in North Charleston.
Off Track Ice Cream — Park Circle
Park Circle — North Charleston
The downtown Off Track scoop shop has developed a following for its scratch-made ice cream in both traditional and vegan formats. The Park Circle expansion brings that to one of North Charleston's most active neighborhood commercial strips, where foot traffic from the park and surrounding residential streets supports the kind of casual, walk-in business that ice cream runs on. The location was originally targeting a summer 2026 opening.
Johns Island
Stono's Oyster Bar is planned for a waterfront site on Johns Island with Stono River views and boat slips for arriving guests.
Stono's Oyster Bar
Johns Island — Stono River
A waterfront oyster bar planned with sweeping views of the Stono River, rooftop dining, and boat slips for guests arriving by water. Johns Island has been one of the more active areas for new development in the Charleston metro, and a waterfront oyster concept with rooftop access and dock access would be a genuine destination rather than a neighborhood convenience.
Nexton (Summerville)
Samaya Indian Table is planned for Nexton, one of the fastest-growing communities in the Charleston metro. Contextual photograph of Indian shared dining.
Samaya Indian Table
Nexton — Summerville
From the owner of Rivayat comes a new Indian dining concept centered on shared plates, grilled specialties, and gathering around the table. Nexton is one of the fastest-growing planned communities in the Charleston metro, and a full-service Indian restaurant there would serve a neighborhood that has largely relied on driving into the city for that kind of dining.
What Charleston's Growing Hospitality Scene Means for Vacation Rental Owners
A city's restaurant scene and its vacation rental market move together. When guests choose a rental over a hotel, they're not just choosing a place to sleep. They're choosing a neighborhood, a set of restaurants within walking distance, a reason to stay another night. Every new opening on this list makes Charleston a more compelling destination, and that translates directly into demand for well-managed vacation rentals across the metro.
More dining options mean longer stays, higher nightly rates, and guests who return. A property near a new destination restaurant or a walkable neighborhood with a growing food scene commands more attention on booking platforms than one that isn't. That's not a coincidence. It's how destination markets work.
